Councillor Jean Hayes

Councillor Jean Hayes

It is with the very deepest regret that the Town Council announces the sad passing of Councillor Jean Hayes. Jean was initially elected in 1985 and had served as a councillor for almost 16 years. She represented the Stockbridge ward.

The funeral was held on Tuesday 25 February at St Jude's Church, Stockbridge Village. The Church was filled with those wishing to pay their last respects to Jean. Indeed, Reverend Glyn Thompson stated that he could not recall officiating at a funeral with so many attendees. Jean was cremated at St Helens Crematorium.

Jean's happy demeanour warmed so many people during her life. She loved to travel (Canada, USA and Blackpool were mentioned!) but Jean also liked "to get out and about in order to help people out". She will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, helpfulness and consideration. Jean touched many people's lives and always for the better.

The Town Council wishes to take this opportunity to send its best wishes to Jean's family and friends.
