Fly tipping is the illegal dumping of household waste and appliances such as fridges and washing machines. It also includes the dumping of hazardous materials. It is dangerous and costs a huge amount of money to clean up.
Convicted fly tippers face a five year prison sentence and a fine of up to £50,000 (unlimited, if the case goes to Crown Court).
It is also an offence to let somebody fly tip on your land or use your vehicle in order to fly tip. You can also be prosecuted for failing to check that the individual or company collecting your waste has a licence to carry it.
You can arrange disposal of large or heavy items with the bulky waste collection service of Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC). If you visit www.knowsley.gov.uk you can find more details on this service.
In addition, if you would like to report rubbish or fly tipping that is dangerous (e.g. asbestos, clinical waste, fridges, gas bottles etc.) please contact KMBC on 0151 443 2400.
