Things to do over the Summer
With the school summer holidays in full swing, visit Knowsley Borough Councils what’s on guide for ideas and activities taking place across the borough. From events in the borough’s libraries (including the Summer Reading Challenge, crafts and treasure hunts), through to a programme of fun activities in Kirkby town centre, activities organised by Knowsley Youth Mutual at the OurPlace facility in Huyton, football sessions and park runs, there’s something for everyone!
Mums who breastfeed will gather in Knowsley on Friday 3 August for a special event during World Breastfeeding Week.
Open to all families the celebration will take place at 10:30am at Knowsley Safari as part of a local Big Latch On event to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding.
There will be free entry for children under three, while Foot Safari is £8.50 per person and Safari Drive (Including Foot Safari) is £10 per person.
Knowsley's Big Latch On promises to be a great event and it's a really good way to raise awareness of the facts about breastfeeding. There's lots of really good support for mums in Knowsley who choose to breastfeed from Knowsley Bosom Buddies our friendly breast feeding peer support service.

Summer fun and nutrition for children in Knowsley
Linked to the national ‘Feeding Britain’ network Knowsley SNAP is a programme of summer fun for 2018, supported by funding from the Department for Education delivered in collaboration with Knowsley Council’s Children’s Centres and School Meals services.
Knowsley SNAP funding is supporting established and fledgling local voluntary, faith and community groups across the borough to deliver holiday provision which includes a nutritious meal, with the aim of developing the offer so it’s bigger and better in the future.
SNAP will have a beneficial effect on children’s health, physical activity levels, educational progress and social skills as well as helping families who struggle to cover the additional food costs over the six weeks holidays.
It will prove again that by working collaboratively in ways that are cooperative and positive, Knowsley is ‘Better Together’.
All SNAP activities are open-access for families, but they particularly welcome children who would benefit most from such opportunities – for example those children who would normally be in receipt of free school meals.
Some sessions have limited spaces and these will require pre-booking. The Knowsley SNAP timetable has all the details plus contact information for each session.
Family Entertainment In Kirkby Town Centre Over The Summer.
The Urban Beach is back until Saturday, 1 September. Urban Beach brings the beach to Kirkby and provides a great opportunity for you to relax and play in the sand, enjoy family entertainment with pop-ups from a number of local retailers.
The summer programme includes:
- A flower theatre on Tuesday, 7 August – Kirkby will receive a visit from some flowery friends.
- T-Rex Makeover on Saturday, 11 August – enjoy a close encounter with a T-Rex and pose for a photo with baby dinos!
- Superheroes on Tuesday, 14 August – pose with your favourite superhero and meet the famous Ro:Bot.
- Pirate Storytelling on Tuesday, 21 August – climb aboard the giant ship and enjoy a spot of storytelling from Captain Raggy Beard.
- Green-fingered fun on Tuesday, 28 August – decorate a plant pot and plant a seed in this educational workshop.
